Huangshuihe Gr
Type Locality and Naming
Central Sichuan (Ya'an). The Huangshuihe Gr was named by the No.2 Party of Regional Geological Survey, Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1976. The type section is situated at Huangshuihe Village in Kuaile Township, Lushan County, Sichuan Province.
Synonym: (湟水河群), Tongchanghe Gr, Baishuihe Gr, Baiyuluo Gr and Dabaoshan System are considered as different names for the same group.
Lithology and Thickness
In the naming section, the Huangshuihe Gr is composed of a metamorphosed volcano-sedimentary series. Lower part (Huangtongjianzi Fm) is dominated by metamorphosed volcanic rock with minor metamorphosed sedimentary rock; going upward, metamorphosed sedimentary rock gradually increases and becomes the dominant lithology. Upper part (Guanfangshan Fm) is metamorphosed areno-argillaceous rock with minor carbonate rock and intermediate acid volcaniclastic rock. The group is recorded as 4400 m thick. Schematic stratigraphic column implies that Ganheba Fm, the underlying metamorphosed basalt, is also part of this Group.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The basal contact relationship between it and underlying Kangding Complex Gr is unknown.
Upper contact
The top is unconformably overlain by the Chengjiang Fm (Sinian/Ediacaran). Regionally, the next younger (or coeval) unit may be the Yanjing Gr (also Mesoproterozoic in same general region).
Regional extent
Central Sichuan (Ya'an). The group is distributed mainly in Baoxing, Lushan, Dayi, Wenchuan and Pengxian counties, Sichuan Province.
